Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma and other skin-related concerns and conditions.
Common side effects of microdermabrasion include mild tenderness, swelling, and redness. This is a low downtime treatment and all well-known side effects take long for few hours only.
How to prepare for a Microdermabrasion treatment?
- Do not use Retin-A creams (3 days prior to the treatment)
- Avoid sun tanning creams or lotions (7 days prior to the treatment)
- Avoid direct sun exposure (7 days prior to the treatment)
- Discontinue taking NSAIDS (7 days prior to the treatment)
- Postpone the treatment if you recently had a laser surgery or treatment.
- Postpone your treatment if you recently had any collagen, Botox® or filler injection. (3-4 weeks)
- Avoid waxing or tanning the skin (3-4 weeks prior to the treatment)
- Wash the treatment area with a non-oily, non-soap based cleanser (On the day of the treatment)
Does microdermabrasion increase collagen?
Microdermabrasion increases the number of collagen fibers, which become thicker, more tightly packed, and more consistently organized. The number of elastic fibers also increases, and they are oriented vertically instead of horizontally, giving the dermal layer more elasticity.
